- Catching intermittent faults and debugging embedded circuits: Keysight InfiniiVision 1000 X-Series
- 4 channels and long captures: Rigol DS1000Z
- 150–200 MHz bandwidth in a teaching lab: Tektronix TBS1000B-EDU
Bandwidth and sample rate are only the starting point. On the bench, what decides whether you find a fault is how fast the scope acquires, how much it can store, and which protocols it can decode. This guide compares Keysight InfiniiVision 1000 X-Series (EDUX1002A/G, DSOX1102A/G), Tektronix TBS1000B-EDU (TBS1052B to TBS1202B) and Rigol DS1000Z (DS1054Z to DS1104Z-S Plus) by those practical criteria.

Which specification matters for which task
Catching glitches and intermittent faults: waveform update rate
A scope is blind between acquisitions. The higher the update rate, the more acquisitions per second and the better the chance of catching a glitch, runt pulse or transient noise event.
- Keysight: ≥ 50,000 wfms/s
- Rigol: up to 30,000 wfms/s
- Tektronix: 100 wfms/s
Use this when: a fault appears randomly, or a signal looks clean on screen but the system still misbehaves.
Long captures: memory depth
Deep memory lets you record a longer time window without lowering the sample rate.
- Rigol: up to 24 Mpts
- Keysight: 100 kpts (EDUX1002A/G), 1 Mpts (DSOX1102A/G)
- Tektronix: 2.5 kpoints
Use this when: you need to capture a slow event and still resolve fast edges inside it, such as a power-up sequence or a long communication frame.
Embedded and IoT debugging: serial decode
Modern boards mix analog signals with I²C, SPI, UART, CAN and LIN buses. Decoding the bus on the scope lets you match a specific packet to an abnormal waveform.
- Keysight: I²C, SPI, UART/RS-232, CAN, LIN, depending on model and options
- Rigol: I²C, RS-232, SPI
- Tektronix: not listed among the main features of the TBS1000B-EDU
Use this when: you are debugging sensor interfaces, MCU peripherals or automotive modules.
Filters, amplifiers, feedback loops: WaveGen and Bode plot
The Keysight EDUX1002G and DSOX1102G combine a 20 MHz WaveGen with frequency response analysis, so one instrument can stimulate a circuit and plot its Bode response. The Rigol DS1074Z-S Plus and DS1104Z-S Plus include a 2-channel 25 MHz generator but do not list Bode plotting as a standard feature.
Higher bandwidth and 4 channels
- 150–200 MHz: only the Tektronix TBS1152B-EDU and TBS1202B-EDU go beyond 100 MHz in this comparison.
- 4 analog channels: only the Rigol DS1000Z offers them. The other two series have 2 channels.
Model selection guide
| Your requirement | Model | Key specs |
|---|---|---|
| Basic teaching lab, 50 MHz | Keysight EDUX1002A | 50 MHz, 2 ch, 1 GSa/s, 100 kpts |
| Teaching lab + signal source + Bode plot | Keysight EDUX1002G | 50 MHz, 2 ch, 20 MHz WaveGen, Bode plot |
| R&D debugging, 70–100 MHz | Keysight DSOX1102A | 70 MHz (upgradable to 100 MHz), 2 ch, 2 GSa/s, 1 Mpts, segmented memory |
| R&D debugging + signal source + Bode plot | Keysight DSOX1102G | As DSOX1102A, plus 20 MHz WaveGen and Bode plot |
| 4 channels + deep memory | Rigol DS1054Z / DS1074Z Plus / DS1104Z Plus | 50 / 70 / 100 MHz, 4 ch, 1 GSa/s, 24 Mpts |
| 4 channels + built-in generator | Rigol DS1074Z-S Plus / DS1104Z-S Plus | 70 / 100 MHz, 4 ch, 1 GSa/s, 24 Mpts, 2-ch 25 MHz generator |
| 150–200 MHz bandwidth | Tektronix TBS1152B-EDU / TBS1202B-EDU | 150 / 200 MHz, 2 ch, 2 GSa/s, 2.5 kpoints |
Conclusion
The Keysight InfiniiVision 1000 X-Series does not offer the most channels or the deepest memory. Its strength is fast acquisition combined with built-in debugging tools (serial decode, segmented memory, DVM, frequency counter, WaveGen and Bode plot), which suits engineers who need to find faults quickly on a single instrument. If your priority is 4 channels with long captures, or 150–200 MHz bandwidth for teaching, the Rigol DS1000Z and Tektronix TBS1000B-EDU are the better fits.
